Latest Case Shiller Housing Data

As I typed the above headline, it first came out as a type – ‘latest hosing data’ – that about sums it up, homeowners are getting hosed. The decline is accelerating. However, it’s worth noting that the fine print on the Case Shiller website states that the one-month numbers are actually smoothed over the past three months – so the January data released today is actually a smoothed Nov-Dec-Jan number compared to the previous smoothed Oct-Nov-Dec number. In other words, there’s a fair amount of lag built in here.
